Person taken to hospital and pet rescued after house fire in DeWitt

DeWitt, N.Y. — Firefighters recused a cat from a house fire in DeWitt Wednesday afternoon, firefighters said.
Firefighters responded to a reported structure fire at 103 Briarcliffe Road around 2:59 p.m. When firefighters arrived at the home in the Genesee Hills neighborhood, they found heavy smoke showing from a doorway, according to the DeWitt Fire District Chief Jason Green.
Firefighters attacked the fire from the outside while searching the home for occupants, he said. The fire was under control quickly.
One person was taken to a hospital for an evaluation and a cat was rescued from the home, firefighters said.
